The American Congress has restored Serbia to the General System of Preference (GSP), which will become effective from 29 July 2015 to 31 December 2017.

The GSP program provides preferential duty-free exports to the USA for almost 5,000 products from 122 selected countries and territories, including Serbia, writes PKS.

Serbia’s right to duty-free treatment according to GSP program expired on 31 July 2013, so companies from Serbia had to pay duty under conditions of normal trade relations on goods which had previously been on the regime of duty-free import to the US.

The new decision of the Congress provides retroactivity from 31 July 2013 and thus US Customs Service (US Customs and Border Protection CBP will refund of duties paid by the exporters from Serbia during the GSP treatment break.

Exporters can expect refund 90 days from data processing .
