Merger of Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent approved

The U.S. Department of Justice has given the green light for the merger of Nokia and French-American company Alcatel-Lucent, the Finnish company said in a release.
The transaction that was completed in April is aimed at creating a European "champion" in the production of network equipment.
This transaction is still pending approval by competition watchdogs in most of the countries where these companies operate, and it also needs to be accepted by Nokia shareholders.
The acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent should be finished in the first half of 2016, Reuters cites Nokia as saying in a release.
