"British Airways" bought 38 buses "Mercedes-Benz Citaro" for airport "Heathrow"

Air transportation company "British Airways" has bought 38 "Mercedes-Benz Citaro" buses. They will be used for transportation of passengers on terminal no. 5 of airport "Heathrow", which should be opened in March 2008.

New "Mercedes-Benz" buses are equipped in accordance with specific wishes and needs of company "British Airways". The specific equipment includes, for example, automatic air conditioning system, three doors for passengers, one on the side of the driver and two on the opposite side. In order for passengers to feel more comfortable, the capacity of the new airport buses has been reduced from initial 100 to 45 passengers, but the length of the bus remained the same (12 m).

The modern equipment in the vehicles and the fact that they are environment-friendly, with Blue-Tec 5 technology, was of crucial importance to "British Airways" to procure "Mercedes-Benz" buses. This technology already meets standards for exhaust gases, which will be put in effect in 2009. Unlike present regulations concerning exhaust gases, the emmission of nitric oxides has been reduced for additional 43% thank to Euro 5- standard. Present and future standards for exhaust gases will be met by "Mercedes-Benz Citaro" by means of Blue-Tec technology based on SCR-technology.
