Construction of the first building within the Belgrade Waterfront complex should commence early September. Clearing of the site began nearly a year ago. A total of 212 facilities have been torn down so far, and about 30 more are yet to be demolished.

Belgrade Mayor Sinisa Mali told TV B92 that the money for this project was set aside by the investor, adding that the obligation of the City of Belgrade and the Republic of Serbia was to provide necessary infrastructure.

- Construction of promenade on the site of Belgrade Waterfront is going to start soon, and it will run parallel to the reconstruction of Hercegovacka Street and parking lot in that street, which will be finished in early August – said Mali.

The mayor reminded that Belgrade Waterfront was the biggest project in this part of Europe, stressing it would create thousands of new jobs and employ local construction companies and the entire domestic economy.

- The first phase of construction begins at the end of summer, while the second and third phase must be preceded by the relocation of railway station and the completion of Prokop, which could be in early 2019 - Mali concluded.
