Serbia on "white Schengen list" at the end of 2008 - new ID cards in autumn, passports in spring

Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia, Božidar Đelić, said in Novi Sad that he expected that the visa privileges for the citizens of Serbia would be put in effect already at the beginning of the following year.
- Already on the first day of work of the new Government, the Agreement on visa privilages was signed and our collocutors in Brussels promise that that system will start to function on January 1, 2008 - said Đelić during campaign "Serbia on Move", organizes within "Exit" festival.
He reminded all present that the negotiations about Agreement on stabilization and EU joining had started on June 13 in Brussels, while the fourth technical round of negotiations with European Union in Belgrade had ended on Friday (July 13, 2007).
According to Djelić, major part of that agreement concerns the questions that are in directly connected to "white Schengen list". Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia expects the visit from European Security Commissar, Franko Fratini, in autumn, as well as the beginning of the dialogue about visa regime. The wish is that Serbia enters "white Schengen list" until the end of the next year.
One of conditions for that is that the ID cards of the citizens of Serbia are changed and, as he said, that procedure is underway.
