General Electric interested in wind farms in Serbia, Freeport in copper in Bor

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic spoke yesterday, at the start of his three-day visit to Washington, to the representatives of American companies interested in investing in Serbia as well as the representatives of companies that already operate in Serbia and have plans to expand their business in our country, the Serbian government said in a release.
At a meeting with the representatives of General Electric on Tuesday, with whom he discussed cooperation in the fields of energy, health, transport and airline industry, Vucic underlined that Serbia was ready to offer American companies the best business conditions in the Western Balkans and support of the Serbian government.

Vice President of General Electric Karan Bhatia said that this company was open to new investments in Serbia, exchange of good practice and the creation of more jobs.
He pointed to the importance of cooperation with the Serbian government on two projects in the field of renewable energy sources – construction of wind farms in Dolovo and Kovacica.

Bhatia said that General Electric was organizing Sourcing Day on June 11th in association with the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and the Serbian Parliament, which will be a chance to examine the opportunity for launching production in Serbia and hiring Serbian contractors for the needs of General Electric companies.

Vucic also met with the management of companies ITI and NCR on Tuesday, as well as with the representatives of the company Freeport-McMoRan, who informed him about the progress of the copper and gold mining project Chukaru Peki in a location four kilometres north of Bor. Senior Vice President for Exploration at Freeport-McMoRan Richard Leveille expressed satisfaction with the company’s work in Serbia so far and underlined that they wanted it to serve as a model of a successful foreign investment in Serbia.

He said that Freeport-McMoRan would invest $18.73 million this year in the extension of research on the project Chukaru Peki near Bor.

Vucic asked representatives of this company to help the Serbian government to find a strategic partner for the Mining and Smelter Basin (RTB) Bor.

Addressing the press after the meeting, he said he was pleased with the interest of American companies in Serbia and underlined that "the arrival of these companies means a wider support of the United States to our country".
Serbian PM will also visit Microsoft to talk about development of services for the citizens and the economy through introduction of modern IT solutions. He will also discuss the possibility of Microsoft, as a leader in the field of electronic administration, improving the efficiency of government administration in Serbia, the release reads.
