With the help of the EU and bilateral partners, the transportation sector should increase its share in GDP from 8 to 10 percent by 2017, said Dejan Trifunovic, the state secretary at the Ministry of Construction, Transportation and Infrastructure of Serbia.
Trifunovic told Tanjug news agency that transportation was one of the most important fields with good development prospects, especially considering the expected effects of completion of corridors X and XI, modernization of railway infrastructure and construction of intermodal terminal for the development of port activities in Belgrade in late 2017.
Trifunovic announced the start of implementation of twinning project aimed at strengthening the administrative capacity of his ministry and traffic and transportation institutions. The value of this project is EUR 1.75 million and should be implemented over the next two years, Trifunovic specified.
According to him, the project will contribute to the boost of capacity of that ministry as well as all competent institutions in the transportation sector. Also, this project should provide us with the new Traffic Development Strategy for the period 2015-2025.
Trifunovic added that the security system in the railway sector and the rest of the transportation sector would be significantly improved through aforementioned project.
