Transmitter at Avala starts broadcasting digital TV signal - Process of digitalization in Serbia to end



Today, at Avala, transmitter for analogue televisions was shut down and digital transmitter was put into operation which completed the digitalization process for 2,5 m TV viewers from Belgrade and surroundings. Digital transmitter at the Avala emission station, was turned on together by the minister of trade, tourism and telecommunications, Rasim Ljajic, the minister of culture and information, Marko Tasovac and the EU Delegation head in Serbia, Michael Davenport.
Ljajic said digitalization of TV signal in Serbia will end before deadline, June 7, 2015 instead of June 15 as planned.
As he outlined, turning off the signal at Avala is the digitalization process finish I Serbia since transmitter at the mountain enables signal for 2,5 million people in Serbia.
Ljajic also outlined digitalization would not have been successful if there had not been for EU donations of EUR je 10,5 m.
Davenport said he is proud for the fact EU supported digitalization in Serbia and set aside EUR 10,5 m for broadcasting equipment which, as he added, is a cornerstone of digitalization.
