City of Belgrade to finance rehabilitation of facade and roof structure on building of former General Staff with 2.2m EUR

Minister of Defense, Dragan Šutanovac, and Deputy Mayor of Belgrade, Radmila Hrustanović, signed the agreement yesterday (July 3, 2007) on reconstruction of facade of building where the General Staff was once settled.

The agreement anticipates allotment of 2.2m EUR for financing of rehabilitation of facade and roof structure on building of General Staff in 33 Kneza Miloša Street.

Allotted amount represents difference in prices of real estates exchanged between the Ministry of Defense and Belgrade at the end of December 2006, when the Ministry allotted facility in 45 Resavska Street to the local authorities. That facility is going to be the Museum of Belgrade.

In return, city of Belgrade allotted house in Krunska Street to the Ministry of Defense, and the amount of 2.2m EUR represents the difference in prices of these two facilities.

Šutanovac said that the building of General Staff was one of the most beautiful facilities and announced negotiations with the city authorities about reconstruction of one more hall in that building.

He said that the Ministry of Defence was willing to agree on similar activities with the local self-governments all around Serbia, in order to realize mutual benefit.
