Signing of the MoU with Germany's Tonnies is a significant step in the revival and improvement of stock farming - pig breeding and pork production in Serbia, Nenad Budimovic, secretary of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Association for Agriculture, told Tanjug news agency.
The investment of this German company in production in Serbia will be at about EUR 420 million, and its intention is to produce three million fattening pigs. It is also announced that the construction of the first five out of a total of 20 piggeries is going to start soon.
- That's an opportunity to use new technologies, good genetics, to produce more food for animals and apply new approaches to protecting the environment and resolving wastewater issues, and all this also requires new jobs - said Budimovic.
Budimovic added that we should also work on the intensification of exports and facilitation of the exportation of pork meat and pork products, as well as the penetration of new markets.
- This should also be a good signal for future investors in animal husbandry in Serbia - said Budimovic.
The Serbian government and German company Tonnies, the biggest meat producer in Europe, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Belgrade on April 27th. On that occasion, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic stressed the importance of that investment for Serbia, adding that our country too would be producing the best meat in Europe.
