Receiving the certificate from the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest male in the world, new doyen of humanity, Japanese Tomodyi Tanabe, 111 years old, apologized for "living so long". Born on September 18, 1895, Tomodyi Tanabe comes from the suburbs of Miyazaki, from Kyushu Island, where most of Japanese 100-year-olds live.
- This is not a special event – new doyen commented modestly while receiving the Guinness Records Book certificate from the hands of the first man of Miyakonodya, his native village.
- I live too long. I am confused and I feel uncomfortable because of that – he said. Tanabe joined his fellow citizen Jona Minagawa, 114 years old, the oldest women in the world, who was also born on Kyushu Island. Being engineer, Tanabe says that his simplicity and moderation in everything, along with healthy food based on fruit and vegetables, are the secrets of his longevity.
Tanabe became the oldest man in the world after the death of Emilian Mercado del Toro from Puerto Rico, who died on January 24, 2007, at the age of 115.
Nearly 30,000 100-year-olds, mainly women, live in Japan, the country of greatest longevity in the world.
