Passenger aircraft renovator SR Technics moves its operations to Serbia

SR Technics, one of the largest Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) companies, is to move its administration from Zurich to Belgrade. In an interview with the portal Tango Six, SR Technics top man Marko Aspesi revealed that they had chosen Serbia precisely because, as he put it, our country is becoming ever more attractive to multinationals.

“Serbia is geographically well-placed”, said Aspesi. “Belgrade is a dynamic and attractive city with a well-educated, highly qualified and industrious work force. We asked the question: is there any other place that better satisfies our needs? The answer was a clear no.”

A Centre for Business Processes began work officially a few weeks ago. It will provide administrative support to operations and other professional services required by their global business of aircraft maintenance.

In the coming year the plan is to move 250 jobs in business functions and processes that are currently based in Zurich.

Aspesi emphasized that the staff they would be seeking should have experience in business administration processes rather than in aviation.

“Experience with or a passion for aviation and the aviation industry will in any case be an advantage”, he said. “For some positions it will will be a requirement. To be more precise, the potential employee type that interests us most is the ambitious professional who wants to build a career in a growing multinational company.”

According to his statement, the company will train staff as they work, if necessary in Switzerland.

MRO operations are worth some USD 60bn annually. SR Technics' market share is around USD 1.2bn.

“Our regionalisation and globalisation strategy is part of an ambitious plan to increase our market share. To increase our employment, we have to become even more competitive. That's why we recently opened centres on Malta and in Malaysia. Now we are lengthening the list with a solid presence in Serbia. In our plan, our Serbian operation forms a particularly significant part of a long-term strategy”, said Aspesi.
