Higher fees for import of butter and cheese - The first measures for protection of local producers adopted

In the attempt to protect local milk producers, the Government of Serbia decided to increase “special fees” for import of milk products, cheese and butter from EU, from 10 to 15% for cheese, from 32 to 47,5% and for butter in retail from 14,8 to 37,1%, the Ministry of agriculture and environmental protection said for Danas.

As the ministry mentions, customs fees for import did not increase but based on the increase on special fees, total import protection for products coming from EU is increasing.

They say this is a temporary measure within the package for solving milk products markets disturbances. They are announcing it will start implementing as of June 30 this year. The Ministry mentions that, apart from premium for milk and increase in incentives per livestock, they are considering other options as well.

However, more about specific solutions which the Government will adopt will be known next week.
