MIHAJLOVIC: Agreement on flights to NY by the end of 2015

(Zorana Mihajlovic) In Aril, the Government of Serbia will sign the agreement with USA on introduction of direct flights, VP of the Government, Vlade Zorana Mihajlovic, has said today.

-I expect that by the end of the year we will agree on direct flights to USA, New York primarily, we will see some other destinations, of course together with Air Serbia – Mihajlovic said to journalists at SCC.

Zorana Mihajlovic, the minister of construction, traffic and infrastructure, reminded that the Government of Serbia last week adopted the text of agreement on air traffic between USA and Serbia which implies direct flights. She said that Serbia passed “all controls with best merits” which are essential “to get opportunity to fly to USA”.

Mihajlovic said it is expected that final agreement for flights to USA is reached by the end of the year.

In mid-2014, American federal airline administration (FAA) ranked Serbia in "category 1", which means it complies with high standards in airline. Obtaining "category 1" is a condition that airlines from Serbia set up direct flights to USA.

Direct flights to USA were halted in 1992 due to economic sanctions against former Federal Republic Yugoslavia.
