Starting January 2006, new personal documents in SCG, ID cards as business cards, passports in already known format

Starting from January 1, 2006, the citizens of Serbia and Montenegro will be receiving new personal documents based on technology of multipurpose chips with all necessary physical and program protection mechanisms.

All personal documents will be prepared in the same format, except for passports, which will be in form of a booklet, as before, but with more efficient protection. ID cards, driving and registration licenses, as well as weapon licenses will be designed in the format of business card.

Preparation of emty documents should be completed by the end of 2005 and the issuing of new documents could start already in January 2006.

All citizens will be able to replace the old documents with new ones within period of 7 to 10 years, whereas the making and issuing of single document will take 72 hours. New documents will contain biometrical data (photo of the face and finger prints).
