Telekom Austria expresses limited interest in Telekom Srbija

Telekom Austria (TA), a telecom firm majority owned by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, is interested in acquiring Telekom Srbija.
However, this interest is limited because Telekom Austria already operates in the market of Serbia through the mobile operator Vip mobile, an unnamed spokesperson of the Austrian concern told APA news agency.
Citing the media in the Balkans, Austrian media report that aside from Telekom Austria, Deutsche Telekom and France Telekom are also interested in Telekom Srbija. They also say that an American fund has showed interest in taking over Telekom Srbija in partnership with the EBRD.
Telekom Austria's subsidiary in Serbia - Vip mobile, has a market share of 5 percent in Serbia, but it is active in mobile telephony only.
APA reminds that Telekom Austria offered to buy a 51-percent stake in Telekom Srbija for EUR 1.1 billion in the Serbian government's last attempt to sell Serbia's telecom firm, but the Government asked EUR 1.4 billion for aforementioned stake, so the deal fell through.
