Meeting on milk and meat processing in Belgrade March 12

UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will organize March 12 in Belgrade, meeting of private and public participants in the field of production and processing of meat and milk in our country.

It is a so-called political dialogue and its objective is to set up constructive dialogue which should result in adoption of certain administrative solutions useful for everyone dealing with agriculture and food production.

FAO-EBRD project coordinator in Serbia, Milos Milovanovic, said for Tanjug these two sectors in our country, generally speaking from the aspect of productivity and overall competitiveness, are not aligned with potentials Serbia has to offer.

Some of our activities are so called protocol on communication in crisis situations in food safety, Milovanovic added.

Milovanovic said these kinds of incidents are sometimes very hard or almost impossible to stop and they very often cause a large economic loss for all sector participants.

Therefore FAO and the European Bank opted for developing a draft of the document which is not legally-binding but which will on the other hand provide tighter cooperation between private and public sector in our country in these kind of situations, Milovanovic added.

He said there is a larger set of measures which can be used and can be classified in trading measures, interventions at the market and agricultural i.e. investment measures.
