EUR 175 million set aside from EU funds for rural development of Serbia by 2020

Serbian Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic said today that EUR 175 million would be set aside from the EU program for rural development of Serbia by 2020.

She announced in her guest appearance on TV Pink's morning show that a great effort must be put into ensuring the transfer of money from these EU funds to the domestic agricultural sector this year.

The minister of agriculture and environmental protection pointed out that the EU program would provide support for five areas of agriculture such as husbandry, meat production, milk production, orcharding and vegetable growing, adding that eligible applicants were all agricultural farms.

- When it comes to direct primary production, 60 percent of the investment from this fund is returned, while 65 percent gets returned when the users are young entrepreneurs under the age of 40 - Bogosavljevic Boskovic specified.

She voiced her expectation that the program would be implemented in late 2015 and that the funds would be placed at the disposal of farmers early next year.

- In the first year of Serbia's EU membership, our agriculture will receive EUR 1 billion - Bogosavljevic Boskovic announced.

She added that there was a lot of opportunities for agricultural development, that the aim was to increase the volume of agricultural production, to improve it, and to keep young people in rural areas.
