(Zorana Mihajlovic) Serbian Minister of Construction, Transportation and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic said today that it was necessary to invest minimum EUR 300 million in the modernization of harbors, docks and fleet in Serbia.
- Serbia primarily needs its harbors modernized. Ports in Serbia has the equipment that is 30-40 years old as well as 50-year-old cranes - she told the press at the Parliament of Serbia.
The minister pointed out that such ports can not be fast at handling goods, adding that ships sometimes picked another country for reloading the goods instead of wasting both time and money in Serbia.
- Modernization, new technologies, new infrastructure and new fleet are our priorities now. Of course, we can not do all this by ourselves. When it comes to ports, docks and fleet, it is estimated that minimum EUR 300 million are required to raise the capacity of harbors in Serbia to a level of operation of average European ports - she noted.
Zorana Mihajlovic added that Chinese companies expressed interest in building ports in Serbia in December 2014, at the Summit of China and CEE Europe in Belgrade.
- We spoke about this, but nothing else has been done in that regard yet because we're still waiting for them to officially express the interest - said the minister.
