Belgrade’s students designed driving computer simulator – best project at local finals "Imagine Cup 2007"

Interactive driving simulator "DriveON", intended for people who want to learn how to drive, is the work of the team of Belgrade’s students named SMOR, and it has been declared the best project in local finals "Imagine Cup 2007", which is organized by "Microsoft".
SMOR gathers the students of the fourth year of the Faculty of Organizational Sciences - Neven Tubić, Milan Stojić and Ivan Vujić, and a student of the third year of the Faculty of Applied Arts - Sava Čajetinac. The essence of their project "DriveON" is placing of automobile driver into faithfully presented traffic situations.
"DriveON" uses large semicircular canvas with the field of vision of 180 degrees, to which three projectors transmit the pictures of virtual streets through which the person who takes driving lessons “drives” the car. This, in addition to the steering wheel for the simulator, includes rearview mirrors, brake, gas, clutch and transmission. In addition, it is possible to “drive” next to the Church of St. Sava or across Slavija, because SMOR included some of the most important Belgrade’s junctions in "DriveON".
- "DriveON" makes it possible for the driver to look both left and right, just like during the real driving. However, some improvements are possible, in order to enable driver to have the field of vision of 360 degrees – says Neven Tubić from SMOR.
Special attention has been given to the instructor, who has special application that is used for control of simulation.
- Thus, instructor can change the situation by changing, for example, traffic signalization. There is also an option for stopping of driving at any moment and giving of a task that can be seen in the regular driving tests, such as the right-of-way task – says Milan Stojić from SMOR.
