Reestablishment of "green" fund in 2015

The Republic of Serbia should reestablish the Environmental Protection Fund this year, Agriculture and Environmental Protection Minister Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic said today.
She told the event "Zelena ekonomija" ("Green Economy") that the current system of funding the environmental protection did not ensure, to a sufficient extent, efficient functioning of that system, especially when it comes to the management of special waste flows in line with the EU requirements. - Compared to developed countries, Serbia has insufficient earmarked funds and decentralized sources of finance, especially in the private sector, and it also lacks the application of financial instruments - Bogosavljevic Boskovic stressed.
For these reasons, it is necessary to revise the chapter on environmental protection funding in the Environmental Protection Law as soon as possible to make way for the establishment of "green" funds as one of crucial mechanisms of financing the environmental protection, said Bogosavljevic Boskovic.
She underlined that the Finance Ministry had showed full understanding for the need to reestablish such fund, so this can be expected to happen in 2015.
