Carlsberg closes two brewaries in Russia


Russian beer producer, operating within Carlsberg, decided to close its plants in Chelyabinsk and Krasnoyarsk, the company announced.
The decision was made due to further beer sale decline due to complex macro-economic sanctions and misbalanced regulating of taxation of that branch in Russia, it was stated in the announcement which Ria novosti reports.
Accoridng to company’s estimation, with closing two Baltika plants, 560 people will lose jobs and total reimbursement and support program will reach more than 300 million rubles (3,8 mil EUR). Capacities for beer production in Russia will thus decrease by 15%.
Companies will shut down as of April 30, 2015. As the company announced, stating the data from Rosstat, in the period 2008 to 2014, beer market in Russia has decreased by more than 30%.
Beer company, Baltika, is one the biggest producers of FMCG in Russia. It has 10 plants in Russia and a wide range of brands. Baltika is a leading exporter of Russian beer which covers 67% of beer export.
