Six-month Tobi, Hungarian shepherd, waved his tail cheerfully and ran to the sand and green pole for number one in the first of the two toilets for dogs opened on the famous Opatija's promenade Lungo mare. For Tobi's owner, Đurđica Srdoč, that was very pleasant surprise and she says that she likes the idea of the city administration very much.
The first toilet for dogs in Croatia has been placed in the vicinity of popular beach Tomaševac and, in that way, the pets will not be leaving unpleasant things behind themselves on the promenade and the sea bath. That really does not suit Opatija, which should soon become the city museum.
Opatija proved that it cared about "the best friends" of their guests in other ways as well. The owners of air-conditioned dog hotel "Šapica" have recently started to offer taxi services for dogs.
Namely, except for Sunday night and holidays, the owners are not allowed to get into public transportation buses with their dogs, which prevent them from sightseeing the surroundings of Opatija. Taxi is adapted for transportation of dogs and other pets and it drives hotel guests wherever they want.
