This money will be placed at the disposal of Serbian farmers in the form of grants that can be used to co-finance production and processing activities.
The EU Delegation reminded in the release that the European Commission had adopted the IPA Rural Development program in Serbia (IPARD) on January 20th, thus creating a basis for EU support to agricultural sector in Serbia over the next six years.
IPARD's main objectives are the improvement of food safety in Serrbia and competitiveness of agricultural production and processing, as well as assistance to that sector to gradually align its standards with those of the EU.
Based on in-depth and unbiased analysis of the sector and following the consultation with interest groups, authorities in Serbia decided to invest the money from the EU in agricultural farms that produce milk, meat, fruits and vegetables, and other crops.
They also decided to allocate EU grant funds to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises for processing and marketing agricultural products.
Aside from assisting the implementation of local development strategies, IPARD will also provide support to agricultural manufacturers introducing the methods of organic production.
The release also reads that both financial and technical assistance will be provided for the development of private facilities for rural tourism.
