Google invests in space research - A billion dollars for Space Exploration technologies

Google is planning to pour some billion dollars in Space Exploration Technologies to support the effots to set up the access to internet via satellite from any location on the Earth, Wall Street Journal reports, stating as the source a person familiar with the talks.

The investment should boost the value of SpaceX, which is managed by the CEO of Tesla Motors Elon Musk, to more than USD 10 billion. It is not known what stake Google could acquire in fast-growing space company.

Last week, in his interview for Business Week, Musk offered the concept in line with which SpaceX in relatively low orbit launch hundreds of satellites. According to him, the project will total some USD 10 billion and it will last for five years at least.
