EAR sets aside 5m EUR for rehabilitation of border crossing Preševo

- European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR) will donate 5m EUR for the first phase of reconstruction and construction of border crossing Preševo in the south of Serbia, on the border with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia – EAR announced.
The first phase of the project will be focused on facilities of infrastructure for passenger terminal, that is, organization of new offices for border police, customs and inspection services, increase in number of road lanes - 12 for buses ad passenger automobiles and 4 for trucks.
Also, the construction of big roof structure, which will cover main control entrance-exit points, is in the pipeline, as well as enabling of the larger number of vehicles and increase in parking spaces and rehabilitation of installations of public utility infrastructure.
The new facility, which should be completed prior to summer 2008, will much enlarge the capacity of border crossing in accordance with the neighboring crossing Tabanovci on Macedonian side, which has recently been completely renovated.
In 2007, the second phase of works should take place. In that phase, the truck inspection terminal will be built. That terminal should encompass premises for veterinary and phytosanitary control, as well as stables for cattle. That phase is also financed by EAR.
