EU funds granted to Serbia efficiently used

European Court of Auditors (ECA), the most important independent financial audit body in the EU, has published a report saying that Serbia efficiently used the funds received from the European Union, Tanjug news agency reports.
- ECA has determined that EUR 1.2 billion granted to Serbia by the EU in the period 2007-2013 were, in principle, efficiently used to prepare the country for its membership in the European Union - the report published Tuesday in Brussels reads.
The Court of Auditors has determined that by allocating funds for the improvement of public administration, establishment of the rule of law and the fight against corruption, the European Commission successfully set priorities, which has led to a gradual improvement in these sectors.
On the other hand, it is also determined that there were some deficiencies and that the EU Assistance Program for Judicial Reform in Serbia is being implemented without any coordination with a similar program of the US government.
- Despite a gradual progress in the management of IPA funds, it is necessary that the European Commission improves the use of the second generation of such funds in the period 2014-2020 - the auditors concluded.
