Buyers of mills in Vojvodina - Drakulić, Bodiroga, Rodić, Verano...

Due to overload of mills with too big capacities, low turnover, old technology, black market that “eats“ one third of wheat and transition troubles, investors are not so eager to deal with Vojvodina’s mill-baking industry, so that, of thirty most significant factories from that field, about twenty have been privatized so far. Also, opposite to dairy industry where one company, i.e. investment fund “Salford”, holds property over nearly 60% of the market, there is no such danger in this industrial field because even the biggest buyer owns less than 10% of entire market.

Most of the mills have been bought by consortium of workers, management and business partners. Looking at isolated cases, the most significant buyer is company of the biggest grain merchant in this part of Europe, Zoran Drakulić, “Yu point”, which manages three mills and there is a big chance for that company to buy the fourth one. “Yu point” is majority owner of Sombor-based “Sombormlin”, “Žitoprodukt” from Bačka Palanka and “Žitopromet” from Sremska Mitrovica, and it is the most serious candidate for take-over of Zrenjanin-based “Žitoprodukt”. It is hard to tell what is the exact share of “Yu point” in the market.

There are some well-known names that enter Vojvodina’s mill-baking industry, such as Belgrade-based “Verano motors” and celebrated basketball player Dejan Bodiroga, who are majority owners of “Žitko” from Bačka Topola and Novi Sad-based “Hleb”. Also, “Rodić MB” company bought “Žitobačka” from Kula, whereas Belgrade-based “Aleksandrija” purchased “Mlinovi Čurug”. “Kikindski mlin” had very interesting process of ownership transformation. It was first bought by Novi Sad’s Meat Industry“Matijević”, which sold it to the new owners, Zrenjanin-based “Dijamant” and Belgrade-based “Frikom” whose majority owner is Croatian “Agrokor”. Subotica-based “Fidelinka” also has new owners whose name is not known yet. According to unofficial information, Russian-Swiss capital is involved in the matter...

Most of the Vojvodina mills are directly or indirectly controlled by employees. The workers, together with management and business partners, bought “Žitosrem” from Inđija, “Mlintest” from Šid,”Žitopromet” from Senta, “Žitobanat” from Vršac, Pančevo-based “Ratar”, “Napredak” from Velika Greda, “Žitopromet” from Ruma...

The best of the important mill-baking companies – Novi Sad-based “Danubijus” still waits for the buyer. Other companies that have not been sold yet are “Baking Industry Pančevo”, mill from Novi Kneževac, “Mlinpek” from Stara Pazova...
