“Serbian Railways” repaired and put 258 cars into traffic – overhaul of another 342 cars and procurement of 1,100 new ones in the pipeline

Public Company "Serbian Railways" announced yesterday (May 7, 2007) that 258 cars had been repaired and that another 342 cars would be overhauled within following three months.

Repair of one car costs about 90m RSD and it is financed from the incomes of the railways. The cars are repaired in the repairing centers in Smederevo, Niš, Kraljevo, Subotica and Ćuprija.

In order to satisfy the needs of economy, railways daily lacks about 2,000 freight cars, but it is expected that this problem will be lessened with the purchase of 1,100 new cars, for which “Serbian Railways” announced tender – public procurement.
