New smeltery in Bor opened - Project totalling EUR 250 m



Today in Bor saw official ceremony for completion of new smelting plant and sulfuric acid plant which, after three and a half years later, new stage in development of metallurgy and copper production at the Mining and smelting basin Bor started.
The president of the Government of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, whom the GM at
Mining and smelting basin Bor, Blagoje Spaskovski called a host since the works
neared an end with his special participation and support of the Government of
Serbia, attended the works completion ceremony.
Trials of parts of the system started even before the official opening, the
strongest aggregate was successfully tested at new sulfuric acid plant, gas
transport system from new smelting furnace and convertor to new sulfuric acid
plant, duvaljka of 4,2 megawatts.
The smelting plant modernization in Bor will result in emission of hazardous
substances in air, water and land below values defined by the law and at the
same time sulfur-dioxide and copper will be used 98%, which will satisfy
environmental standards effective in Serbia and EU.
New smeltery will produce 80 thousand tons of copper per year and 400 thousand
tons of concentrate will be processed at significantly lower price since
current costs of USD 1. 250 per ton will decrease to some USD 700.
The project totaled EUR 250 m.
The main contractor is Canadian SNC Lavalin and its producing technology, Otokumpu is Finish Outotec.
Canadians and Finish carried out supervision of works and all local works entrusted to Energoprojekt, the Faculty of construction from Belgrade announced.
A large number of installed elements was produced in Serbia and some 800 people
were hired for the project.
