Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent have again initiated talks on possible merge or close cooperation, seebiz.eu reports.

According to German magazine, "Manager Magazine", the discussions started again during the fall. Namely, allegedly, during the previous few years, companies have talked for a few times about merging which has not been a success so far. According to Manager Magazine, this merge could be fruitful for both companies having in mind Nokia’s strong positions in the field of mobile networks and Alcatel-Lucent’s solutions in fixed communications technology.

Allegedly, similar discussions have been in progress for 5 years now. However, one of the big trouble spots is French regulatory institutions, worried for potential large number of job losses at Alcatel. Apart from that, it was stated that so far, there has been few successful merges of companies from that sector, i.e. that these kinds of activities are very risky.
