Sulfuric acid plant and new melting plant in Bor will be completed December 23

Construction of new melting plant and sulfuric acid plant at the Mine and melting basin Bor which guarantees environmentally clean environment after a hundred-year copper production will end December 23, the company announced.

A total of EUR 250 m was invested in the construction of facility with modern technology which started in 2011, Canadian EDC bank approved the loan and Serbia guaranteed for it.

Current government paid additional EUR 30 m to the Basin Bor.

The company outlined that apart from environmental importance and decrease of sulfur dioxide in the air in line with EU standards and new facility has a significant economic effect as well.

It is estimated that in the beginning, when concentrates are processed in Bor, the company financial results will be better for USD 12 m annually, and after two years, when there is enough copper concentrate from its own mines, annual effects will double.

Local copper processor will also benefit from new melting plant – Cable plant in Jagodina Sevojno, Novkabela as well as many companies in Bor, Zajecar, Majdanpek and Prokuplje. The main contractor is Canadian SNC Lavalin, and its subcontractor and the owner of autogenous flesh smelting Otokumpu technology is Finish company Outotek.

A large number of installed elements in the project which previous and this government defined as the project “of great national importance”was produced in Serbia and some 800 people was hired during the project.
