Greater chances for electricity producers using renewable energy sources - New Law on energy leads to alignment with EU rules

The Proposal of the Law on energy which the Government of Serbia adopted on Friday, December 19, 2014, should enable that Serbia, in the field of energy, reaches the highest level so far in the EU joining process.

With the new law, all measures from the EU Third energy agreement in the field of gas and electrical and energy sector while renewable energy sources, due to changes in the way of electric and energy system functioning, are comprised within the package only indirectly, the minister of mining and energy, Aleksandar Antic, said earlier.

Compared to current regulations, new Law on energy will bring more precise and better coordinated administrative procedures while at the same times flaws will be noticed with respect to energy permits issuance and obtaining the status of benefited electricity producers, Antic outlined.

With the proposal of the new law, the Ministry of mining and energy is planning to introducte the option of obtaining temporary status of benefited producer for all electric power plants using renewable energy sources, not only as it has been the case so far, for wind and sun energy-driven electric power plants, Antic specified.

Thus, investors would, as he added, get safer investment planning conditions and the state would get the option to centralize project monitoring and implementation.

He stressed out the new law in the renewable energy sources does not decrease already obtained rights of investors but only governs the field in the more quality manner.
