EU approves merging of Holcim and Lafarge

The European antimonopoly regulators have provided today “green light” for merge of French cement producer, Lafarge and the Swiss rival Holcim, which would result in the biggest world’s cement plant.

- Lafarge’s takeover of Holcim is conditioned. The merging process can be carried out, the European commissionaire, Margrethe Vestager, wrote at her Twitter account, and France Presse announced.

To continue merge of two companies, the European Commission set up the next terms: that Lafarge should sell its business in Germany, Romania and Britain as well as that Holcim sells its working capitals in France, Hungary, Slovakia, Spain and the Czech Republic.

In April this year, Holcim and Lafarge have announced merging in order to set up world’s biggest cement producer whose market value would total EUR 40 billion.

It was then announced the new company will be called Lafarge Holcim, that it will have a unique position in 90 countries in the world, that it will hire 136.000 people, with annual sales of EUR 32 billion and business profit of EUR 6,5 billion.
