Who halted South Stream?
President of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolic, says Russia would not have halted the South Stream construction if Moscow did not realize the EU will not allow the project, German councilor, Angela Merkel, claims that Europe did not cancel the South Stream and that none of the EU-members countries did not cancel it.
The South Stream was the topic between the German councilor, Angela Merkel and Bulgarian Prime Minister, Bojko Borisov. As Reuters reports, Merkel supports the request of Bulgaria to start again the negotiations with Russia on the gas pipeline.
- When it comes to South Stream gas pipeline, we can say that Europe did not cancel it. None of the European countries rejected the project but Russia expressed its doubts. I think it is important to speak openly with Russia how things will continue based on effective laws– Merkel says.
Bulgarian Prime Minister, Bojko Borisov, still hopes the problem will be solved.
President of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolic says agreement between Russia and EU would be a relief for Serbia as well.
