Lawyers are asking for referndum on notaries

The Managing Board of the Lawyers’ chamber made a decision on initiating referendum and public initiative with respect to the Law on public notaries.

Based on this decision, the Lawyers ‘chamber will address the citizens and ask for their opinion on all issues which are the reasons for lawyers’ strike, it was stated in the announcement.

More than eight thousand lawyers in Serbia went on general strike September 17 which practically paralyzed legal system of the state. They do not appear at hearings and trials have been postponed constantly.

For two months now, the lawyers are asking amendment to the Law on public notaries and supplementing laws so that exclusivity in making sales real estate contracts would be taken away from notaries.

Their other request refers to regulation of lump sum taxation and the third to replacement of the minister of justice, Nikola Selakovic.
