British experts discovered how to stop tumor growth which could result in new methods of blocking many carcinomas or prevention of eyesight loss which follows macular degeneration.

Universities in Bristol and Nottingham discovered that a single molecule plays the key role in creation of new blood arteries. Since tumors need constant food delivery through blood arteries, stopping the creation of new arteries would at the same time stop increase in cancer cells number and its expansion.

When scientists three times a week gave mice a cure which stops activity of SRPK1 molecule, tumor growth was stopped!

- We concluded that blocking the SRPK1 activity could stop cancer development – one of the authors of the study, Sebastian Oltean from the University in Bristol said.

- In this work, we are showing that decrease of SRPK1 quantity for instance in prostate cancer, we can stop vascularization and further tumor growth – Oltean said.

For the fact that healing focuses on blood veins, it could be used for other types of cancer or for macular degeneration, the most common form of eyesight loss.

Biotechnological company, Eksonate, is planning to develop SRPK1 inhibitors as a method of illness treatment with uncontrolled blood veins growth.
