Freeport and Rio Tinto want to invest in Serbian mines

The USA Ambassador in Serbia, Michael Kirby, said yesterday in Bor that Serbian authorities are working hard on the Law on mining which will, on the one hand, enable safety to the country’s tax collection and on the other hand, large companies to invest in Serbia, stating that an American company and a multinational company, Freeport McMoran and Rio Tinto are interested in investing in Serbian mines.
The Ambassador Kirby yesterday with his associates, heads of Freeport McMoran, representatives of Rakita Exploration and the minister of mining and energy, Aleksandar Antic visited Bor municipality, RTB Bor and American company, Freeport McMoran, which explores new ore findings in the Bor region.
Stating he visited Freeport McMoran which has been present here for thirteen years and which explores ore findings, Kirby mentioned Freeport has been estimating options for opening another cooper mine in Bor.
Freeport McMoran’s research results proved that Bor and the region where extremely rich copper ore finding was found have extensive mining potential.
GM at RTB Bor, Blagoje Spaskovski, outlined that investment in a new melting facility is huge but that importance for the citizens of Bor is even greater which, on the one hand, will get clean air and on the other economic since it provides better standard for the workers and bigger economy growth of Serbia.
